Samil Movement: March 1, 1919

On this day, March 1, we honor the countless number of faceless and nameless men and women who made unknown sacrifices for the sake of their motherland–to preserve and to be able to practice their own language and culture–during a dark and tumultuous time in Korea’s history. May Korea continue to thrive and flourish in honor of these patriots. Dae han min guk man seh! (translation: Long live Korea!)

If you are interested in reading a translation of the proclamation, you can do so here in a document from Columbia University.
