As many of you may have heard already, the bakery giant, Hostess, has declared bankruptcy and their intention to sell the company and its many bakery delights. Among these popular treats is none other than our beloved “twinkie,” which my youngest sister so sagely pointed out is beloved by many but eaten by few. So true…
The company’s recent announcement got me thinking of just how often I tell myself that I will not take things for granted and yet time and time again, I do. This incident with Hostess is just such an example.
This blog is called Musings of a Twinkie because of the pop culture meaning behind the word “Twinkie.” However, without the actual physical twinkie, the word doesn’t pack the same punch. After all, one needs the visual representation of a Hostess twinkie to understand the pop culture’s full reference.
But alas, with the demise of Hostess, a new generation of readers will soon pop up who will have absolutely no idea what a twinkie is much less understand the meaning behind our blog. I mean, they’ve got to understand; our blog is very important to the everyday routine of life as we know it, right? 😉
Seriously, though, this recent announcement once again pointed out to me my perpetual habit of not fully appreciating things until they’re…gone.
So as much as I didn’t eat the twinkies when they were overflowing in the grocery store aisles–now, you can’t even find one pack–I will sorely miss those happy little mounds of yellow goodness. How can anyone not like them?
Hopefully, this will not be the last of our beloved twinkies and that some kind-souled company will buy the rights and recipe to this unhealthy treat for future generations to continue to enjoy. 🙂 In the meanwhile, I’m going to try my hardest once again to appreciate everything in my life as best as I can…as fully as I can. Because if something like the TWINKIE can disappear, there’s no telling what will be next.
My musing for today?
Appreciate twinkies before they’re all gone!
A world without twinkies!
