I saw this movie about a year or two ago–yes, primarily because of Kang Dong Won–and found myself pleasantly entertained by the Korean folklore / mythology / fantasy / historical / action aspect of this film.
This movie definitely requires a “willing suspension of disbelief,” but overall, I LOVED the nice fusion of folklore with the modern sequences and how this plot plays with the notion of time. And of course, this movie is rife with comedic moments, many of which involve Jeon Woo Chi’s dog that’s been transformed into Jeon Woo Chi’s human companion.
I’m not sure if the movie was a big box office success in Korea like last week’s selection, The Man from Nowhere. What I do know is that I absolutely adored this fun little movie and didn’t mind the 2+ hours spent watching it. In fact, I found it almost cartoon-like in some of its plot devices and felt as though I was once again indulging my inner child as I got lost in the world of Jeon Woo Chi.
I hope that those of you who get a chance to watch this movie enjoy it half as much as I did. As I love history and literature, this movie was definitely right up my alley. 😉
