Synopsis: In Sector 7, an underwater oil field located south of Jeju Island, Hae-Jun is working as a marine equipment manager on an oil prospecting ship called Eclipse. Joining the crew later is a former colleague of Hae-Jun’s father, assigned to Eclipse as captain. Though his job is to oversee the withdrawal of the ship, he suggests conducting some drilling one last time.

After 3 weeks of preparation, Hae-Jun takes new recruit underwater, but he sinks to the bottom of the sea when his equipment fails. Shortly after crew members begin to turn up dead, one by one, their bodies viciously mutilated. What the few survivors soon discover is a transparent underwater creature they encountered once before. The viral monster infiltrated the ship through the drilling pipe and has been feeding on the crew to survive. For Hae-Jun and her colleagues, a fight for their lives begins.

Musings: If some of you don’t know by now, I hate horror flicks! My daughters refuse to watch any with me and I sure don’t watch them alone. So, why did I watch this? Well, Ha Ji Won was the main draw for me! I went into this movie having not read the synopsis before hand so you can imagine my surprise (or shock/horror) to find out this was a monster horror movie! But for Ji Won, I continued this and watched until the end…by myself at that!!

Ha Ji Won and Oh Ji Ho worked well together as Cha Hae-Jun and Kim Dong-Soo. Or maybe Ji Won is one of those rare actresses that just looks good with everybody!! When Moon-Hyung, the physician on the rig, made some comment about whether they were romantic, a dig on Hae-Jun’s lack of feminine looks in his estimation, you can’t help but laugh.

As with most monster/horror flicks, the beginning minutes are the calm before the storm! As strange things start to happen on the ship; unexplained things, the crew on-board slowly tried to unravel what is going on. Little by little, the mysterious happenings get worse as one-by-one, crew member go missing and later are found dead and mutilated.

The big climax is with the confrontation with the creature itself and a big finale with lots of explosions, death and destruction. If watching this kind of reminds you of the Alien movies, yes, sort of. I got that same vibe also, with a major difference in the ending. So, if you are like me, super squeamish and hating monster/horror flicks unless you have the comfort of a pillow/blanket for protection, you might want to skip this; otherwise, I guess you could say it’s fun (How am I going to get through October’s movies??!!!)!!

Trailer is available on on YouTube Website only. The movie is available on several sites. Ask me if your interested. Also available on Netflix if you are a subscriber.

It’s my girl, Ha Ji Won’s Birthday this week (June 28th). Unbelievably looking great at 35!! Wishing her all the best this year and years to come. Cannot wait for her new drama, Hwatu to come!

Next month reviews are All About Me!! For my birthday month, I’m rating movies I’ve seen in the last year that I loved!! I admit a penchant for crime, murder, and suspense movies so be forewarned!!

  1. NKA,
This is a good one. Special effects are descent. The monster is not to bad on the spook factor lol. I hope Ji Won has a good day on birthday. I hope she can find a good person to settle down with as the say lol, if she would like a family. A early Birthday wish to you, I hope it is a good one for you. The older you get the more you want to forget them lol. I don’t know if you have seen the movie called
Love 911. I watched it last night and it was good. A good story line, with some awww moment and oh DAYUM ones also lol. The actors are good, the lead people I don’t know them. But some of the others I have seen in TV show in supporting parts. Take a look it is worth it.

    1. Yes, Love 911 was really good. The lead guy will be in the drama starting soon called Empire of Gold and also was in Psychic (see next month review) so he is a really good actor. How in the world don’t you know Han Hyo Joo?!! Brilliant Legacy? Iljimae? Spring Waltz? I could go on!!

  2. Iam, sense I have been home sick I have watch all the movies you have picked, even that sad one. I like the stuff you like also a sci fi nut lol. I watched Heavens Soldier it was ok they need to pick there game up on sci fi. Also love anything to do with Gumiho’s lol. So if know any let me know. I fojnd 911 just looking for something that was not so sad. I started to watch CC like the res, I said it was like crack but I guess I went thru rehab I can take it or leave it. There some new shows coming out that look good. The new one Shin Hye and the Faith actor lead guy are in is getting a lot of hipe, I hope it don’t bomb.

    1. Well, let me find something I know you are going to love. Okay, its not Korean, but Japanese. You must see!! I immediately bought the DVDs from Target, it was so good! Hell, if I had a ripping program, I’d rip it to youtube temporarily for you to watch. Yeah, that good. Japanese do Sci-Fi GREAT!! Its called Gantz and Another Gantz. I might be able to find the first one but not the second. Another great series is Bloody Monday! Both 1&2! Bloody Monday, you can find at Use the alphabet search, their search engine is disabled. I’ll find Gantz and get back to you.

      1. Sweet I will look for them. You are right they know sci fi that is for sure, some corny but take it fir what it is and have a good time. I wat h show to forget my world for hour or two. Not looking to go to school ormbe brain washed for some cause. I like happy endings and laugh sometime crys lol. That is why I like you guys recaps.

  3. I know you keep up with the goings and comjngs of some of the actors, I am not sure what site it was on but it had to be a gossip site. They where saying the actors in gu family YW and KC are dating, any truth to it you think. I dont think the guy that is KC is much older than Suzy is he? She seems to be a real good person and so is he. I just finished watching 100 yr and the guy that Is Eugene love interest is a player and has not been real nice with the ladies. I don’t find him that handsome, he is no Min Ho or The guy that place WR in gu fam. Now he looks to be a mans man. I know it is the kdrama and kpop thing to make the dudes cute or what ever but some of them just look gay or a closet cross dresser.
Nothing manly about them, dont mean crewing tobacco and scratching lol no know what I mean lol. Some of them have finger nails you ladies would kill for lol. Any way I am sure I will get nailed to the cross for saying they are not manly lol. Keep them coming NK

    1. Gantz-
      Gantz 2- (hopefully this plays)

Unfortunately, I dropped Gu because I lost interest and I am a LSG fan but I really couldn’t stay interested and with so much out there to watch, I just don’t suffer through drama anymore so I did not hear about the dating news. Interesting though.

You must watch Cruel City! It is going to be the hit for the season!!

      1. You are right about series they can get long and in some cases like 100yr they dragged it out they could have made it a 25 ep and it would have been even better. I will book mark those site when I get on my computer. Iam on my tablet in bed that is why so many typos lol. I will follow a series so I can talk with you guys, and tease and all. You have become family.

    2. Briefly cutting into your convo to say: the difference in age between Lee Seung Gi and Suzy is… not miniscule. He’s 26 (Western years) and she’s 18 (again, Western years).

      1. Wow I thought they where close. Whats he doing smoochin on her lol. Question what is the korean age diff from western age. What is the reason. You are not butting in jules cheers hon

        1. I’m sure someone else could explain it more clearly, but I’ll give the age thing a go.

In Korea, during a person’s first year of life they’re considered a year old (so from the moment you’re born, you’re already one year old). As I understand it, you’re considered to age to your next year on lunar New Year (which is usually mid to late January to mid February, I think), though I’ve also heard it’s January 1st – maybe Grace could clarify. 🙂

So in Korean years, a person could be considered up to two years older than they would be in Western years (Suzy, for example, would now be 20 – a legal adult – in Korea).

Did that make any sense? I’m not sure… *g*

          1. Yep it makes sense. Thanks for the lesson on aging in Korea. Dayum I glad I western age lol don’t need two more to tack on lol

            Cheers 🙂
