Movie Monday: Duet (2012)

Starring: Ko Ah-Seong as Nancy and James Page as Jude

Rating: PG

Running Time: 96 min

Twinkies: 3 stars

Synopsis: An aspiring singer, Nancy leaves Korea for the U.K. to get over a breakup. Nancy meets a British guy Jude (James Page) on her trip, and the two develop a relationship as they talk about their mutual interests in music, photography and travel.

Musings: There are two reasons why I’m recommending this movie: the cinematography and the music. Both of them, I enjoyed immensely. This movie was like a travelogue that took you from London to the Isle of Sky; and in the background, this wonderful music was playing which made you want to visit the countries even more.

It is funny that this was actually a Korean movie! Why? Because it is 99.9% of the time in English! Nancy’s melodic voice just seeps into your consciousness. I started watching this late Friday night, and as I was listening to one of her songs, she literally lulled me to sleep! At first I thought, maybe this movie is just too boring!

But once I restarted watching it, I realize that there is just something about when she sings that totally relaxes your mind, soul, spirit and body. I don’t want to say this is a romance because when I think about it, it really isn’t. It is more about 2 people from different cultures who come together and realize just how similar their interests are, and it is through those interests that they are able to connect with each other spiritually. I admit this movie will not interest a lot of people, but if you like nice, soothing music from time to time and a story that really won’t “tax” your mind, this is one to consider.

Trailer is available on on YouTube Website only. The movie is available on several sites. Ask me if your interested.
