Friday Fun: AKMU – “How People Move” (사람들이 움직이는 게)

FF 05-06-16

Happy Friday, Twinkles!

This dynamic sibling duo is back with their sophomore album that just hit the air waves this past week! And the first song I am featuring for “Friday Fun” is none other than “How People Move,” which has AKMU’s unique signature all over it. From the music to the zany music video, everything seems to scream out, “AKMU is BACK!!!!”

Don’t believe me? Take a look… 😉

Video: Released May 3, 2016, and compliments of Akdong Musician (AKMU) via YouTube

Not only is their music upbeat and joy-inducing, musing about the wonders of humanity and how the human body can move and do all sorts of things, the music video is a vibrant palette of so many elements. Let me just name a few:

The optical illusions of M.C. Escher? Check.

A nod to Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels? Check.

Familiar and “classic” toys and games to recall one’s childhood? Check.

But more than anything else, though, the visible onscreen chemistry of these two siblings is what keeps me coming back for more each time they release a new song. Seriously, how does one possibly resist the irresistible charm of big brother Chan Hyuk teasing his little sister Soo Hyun, who holds her own against his teasing? And that’s only their playfulness. Their musicality is on a level all its own.

So as you listen to their latest song, may you bop around this weekend to the wonders of being human. 🙂 Happy Friday, Twinkles~! I wish you another glorious weekend!

Addendum on May 12, 2016: I just couldn’t resist adding this dance practice video for you to watch. How do these two have so much verve?! Enjoy~! I know I did! 😉

  1. YES AKMU RULES!!!! I saw the MV when it came out and me and my sisters just loved its zany quirkiness in both the visuals and music. It’s hard to believe that Chanhyuk composed the song and wrote the lyrics all by himself. They are such a creative duo, aren’t they? I’m glad they can show off their talents to the world at such a young age. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting! Yes, AKMU is awesome! Just hearing their name puts me in a good mood. 🙂

  2. Woa! I’m so happy to see a familiar MV mentioned here. I just love the way the song’s concept is so unique. Marveling how people move… It’s just like the way we’re fearfully and wonderfully made. Also, Chanhyuk has a very one-of-a-kind rapping style that I approve of 100%, and Soohyun’s singing style is not your average Kpop singer’s. It stands out in every sense, and she has vocal agility and developement above her age. Thanks for sharing with everybody! I enjoyed this post a whole lot.

    1. Thanks for the comment! These two definitely bring something unique to the K-music industry! 🙂 Love love love! 🙂
