Happy Friday, Twinkles~
Today’s selection demonstrates the power of influence! More specifically, the power of influence that a hoobae can exert on a sunbae. 😉
I had heard of Akdong Musician briefly during the recent K-Pop Star Season 3 finale in which the group performed one of its new songs, “Melted.” However, I wasn’t in the mood to listen to a song in a minor key at the time, so I clicked out of the song before it even got to the chorus. LOL. I know…I’ve already heard an earful about how I should have listened to the duo perform by a number of my church minions. LOL
In any case, I stumbled upon them again earlier this week and oddly found myself entranced by their song “200%.” I say “oddly” because my little hoobae had shown me the music video to this song last week, and I wasn’t all that impressed. Their stage performance, on the other hand, got me intrigued enough to listen to this song again…and again…and again this past week as I graded. Yes, the power of influence can be a scary thing. 😉
Let’s take a look at our Friday Fun selection!
Group Name: Akdong Musician (also known as AKMU)
Group Members: Siblings Lee Chan Hyuk (brother) and Lee Soo Hyun (sister)
Debut: April 2014
Agency Label: YG Entertainment
Song Title: “200%”
Video Rating: PG
Musings: Late to the whole K-Pop Star show, I didn’t realize that this dynamic duo–brother (born September 12, 1996) composes and writes their songs while sister (born May 4, 1999) is the main vocalist–were the winners of Season 2.
Needless to say, I wasn’t impressed with the first song that I heard from them, “Melted,” because I just wasn’t in the mood for a song in a minor key that day. However, my little hoobae then insisted that I watch the music videos of both “Melted” and “200%” last Sunday at church.
I still wasn’t convinced. -.-
Now, if you’ll recall from a post a while back (here), I did mention that my family nickname is “Turtle” because I sometimes–and I mean only sometimes LOL–I process things slowly. Thankfully, I don’t always move at a turtle’s pace. In any case, I came across a dance practice video of the duo, liked the song and video much more than I did the music video, so then searched for a stage performance clip of the two performing “200%.”
Let’s just say that this song has been keeping me company for a number of days now as I grade and prepare lectures. 😀
The song itself has a tendency to suck a listener in with its unique blend of zany lyrics and stylized music. Lee Chan Hyuk’s solid rap is nicely balanced by his sister’s sweet yet mature voice that belies her young age. I don’t know what else to say other than that I’ve been truly caught in the AKMU web–hook, line, and sinker!
Here’s the official music video. I’m curious to see if some of you prefer the stage performance to the music video like me. Until next week then…Have a wonderful weekend, Twinkles! 😀
