Cool Kiz on the Block: Swimming

Cool Kiz

Hi, Twinkles! I bet you’re surprised to see me since my blog posts have been uploading on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, huh?

I had a bit of time this evening and felt inspired to share with you one of my latest loves: Cool Kiz on the Block – Swimming! If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ve got to watch at least one episode. 🙂

It’s a variety show that pits the celebrity team (8 members in no particular order: Kang Ho DongEun Ji Won, Kwon Yuri, Sung Hoon, Lee Jae Yoon, Seo Ji Seok, Jung Hyung Don, and Kang Min Hyuk) against another team–other celebrity teams, non-celebrity teams, professional athletes, etc. It’s more than a variety show, though, as it showcases the selected sport and how each member tries to improve upon his/her own time as well as contribute to the team’s effort to win.

This time around, the show centers around swimming, and since I used to swim on my high school team, I was naturally drawn to the segment. OK, I confess: I was also attracted to the show because of the “Ace” of the team. He’s quite adorable. 😉

Don’t believe me? Take a look! I’m including the latest episode from KBS World TV below.

Musings: There is much to commend about this show, but in particular, I love how the beginners’ group tries so hard each week to earn the privilege to compete by racing against a “guest”…only to have their hopes cruelly dashed each time because their competition proves to be surprisingly good…or at least better than they. 😀

Then there’s the thrilling competition itself as team member after team member tries to pull his or her own weight. The “athletes” to look out for because of their swimming prowess? The team’s “Ace,” Sung Hoon; the “scary Hawaiian beetle,” Eun Ji Won; and the “Real Body,” Lee Jae Yoon.

In addition, viewers get a glimpse of the swimming world through Korea’s national swim team. Thus far, the show has introduced to us some of the young hopefuls to carry on the great legacies already created by their sunbaes, and in all honesty, I’m pretty excited for the next Olympics and hope to see some of these rising stars compete on the international pool. 🙂

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the show! Let me know if you find this show as entertaining and as exciting as I do. 🙂

  1. Makes me want to go swimming!

I grew up swimming and had a funny experience as a newlywed when I was swimming in Roosevelt Lake. I was smeared with sunscreen, jumped off the side of the pontoon boat and was enjoying the water when I felt something nibbling on my toes, naturally I freaked out! There was no ladder on the boat and I was so slippery my husband couldn’t pull me into the boat. Needless to say, this “incident” ended safely because I was so desperate that I managed to get my leg up on the side and finally “landed” myself on the deck. Do I go swimming in the lake anymore? NO!
