To new and seasoned Twinkles alike, I bring to you our annual walk down “Memory Lane,” a nostalgic stroll down previous blog posts that is designed to help us relive our memories from those times or to introduce you to past posts if you missed them because you are new to Musings. And again, my apologies for the lateness of our walk this year. At least we still have seven days left of October for our strolling, right? 🙂 Continue reading Walk down Memory Lane: Musing for Today
Siblings, like so many things in our world, can be a source of great strife and pain, but they can also be a rich source of endless love and support. We’ve seen this demonstrated time and time again in our personal lives, in the lives of our beloved K-drama characters, and most recently in the lives of the newest little munchkins in The Return of Superman.
Week after week, Lee Da Eul unashamedly displays his love and affection for his older sister, Lee So Eul, by shadowing her every move. Talk about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery! If you haven’t seen these two in action, you absolutely must. They are sweetness and love all bottled up in pint-size munchkin bodies! *squees from cuteness overload*
Recently, I received an email from one of my silent Twinkles–we’ve long accepted the fact that many of you are silent readers; yes, I’m talking about most of you reading this right now LOL–and her email made me think a great deal about sibling love and just how beautiful a thing it is. Continue reading Musing for Today: Sibling Love
Despite my self-proclaimed hiatus from blogging, in light of Friday’s tragedy in Paris, I felt compelled to type a few words as inadequate as they may be in the wake of the devastation: “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité.”
May these three words that symbolize the mentality of the country and its people continue to resonate strongly–now more than ever–as they, along with the rest of the world, rally from Friday night’s horror and continue to pursue liberty, equality, and fraternity…especially in the face of such tumult and grief.
The country of France and its people have proved themselves valiant, resilient, and united throughout history. The Arc de Triomphe stands as just one concrete evidence of such a legacy. The present time will be no different as the French once again triumph.
For those Twinkles who are in France, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We hope that you are safe and look forward to hearing that you are well. *Fighting!*
Each year around the month of October, we celebrate our Musing’s birth month, and this year, in a final nod to the fifth year as a blog community, I thought that I’d forego our usual Sunday bulletin board announcements and post a 2015 “Who Are the Twinkles.” Continue reading Musing for Today: Who Are the Twinkles? – 2015
Some of you know that right around this time of year, I take a bit of time to help some of the students in my personal life revise their personal statements as they apply to colleges/graduate schools. In the midst of preparing another “Walk down Memory Lane” post for The King 2 Hearts, though, it dawned on me that some of the new Twinkles here in the Musings community may find the following post–a “Musing for Today” post–helpful, especially if you missed it when it first published back in November 12, 2013.
If nothing else, it’ll be a nice reminder of just how perspectives may change based on who is doing the beholding. 🙂 I hope some of you find this journey back in time to one of my past “Musings for Today” helpful as you reflect on how to present yourself to the admissions committee! 🙂 Continue reading Walk down Memory Lane: Musing for Today – In the Eye of the Beholder
Let me first start by wishing everyone a happy New Year!
As 2014 draws quickly to a close for me–and for some of you still in the 2014 time zone–I wanted to spend a bit of time to articulate to some extent my thoughts on 2014 before the year ends. Hopefully, many of you are enjoying the last of the year with loved ones as I will be doing in just a few hours from now.
But for the moment, I share with you a bit of how 2014 has been for me on a personal level… Continue reading Musing for Today: 2014…Let It Go
Merry Christmas, everyone! It’s Dec. 25th and one of two holidays that I celebrate with gusto. As some of you observe this holiday, I wish you much love and joy this Christmas Day. 🙂 And I hope you will indulge me today as I deviate from anything remotely related to Korean dramas or culture and share with you something of a more personal nature. 🙂
Now, it’s been a while since I wrote a “Musing for Today,” but since I know that this holiday carries with it many complex emotions and memories for some people, I wanted to share with you a performance that my minions–many of whom have moved on since 2012 when this video was filmed–presented back in Dec. 2012. You can read the first post that featured this video here. Continue reading Musing for Today: Christmas
Recently, one of my college students scribbled the above question on the backside of one of his quizzes, asking me to provide an answer to this weighty question for him. Yes, I have one of these philosophical students in my class this semester, one who particularly delights in staying after class to simply chat with me and to prod my brain. -.-
His facetious question, though, is reflective of something that I’ve been thinking about…quite a lot actually. Continue reading Musing for Today: What Is the Meaning of Life?
As a kid, I never understood this labeling. It always seemed a misnomer, for how can a day be called “good” if it commemorates the death of someone so dear to me…despite the hope and blessings that I receive because of that?
This year, I have yet another reason why this Good Friday is marked with a profound solemnity for me. As hope of rescuing the missing passengers on the Jeju ferry dims and the efforts now turn to what looks like a recovery mission, I offer these thoughts to you for contemplation… Continue reading Musing for Today: Real Life in Context
This week is what is traditionally called Passion Week in the Christian faith, and during this week leading up to Good Friday and Easter Sunday, I become much more contemplative than usual…yes, even for me. 😉
I find myself wondering, if I had one week left to live, how would I spend it? Continue reading Musing for Today: What Would I Do in My Last Week…?
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, when I receive gifts, I don’t fully appreciate them…until I start using them.
And then it’s a whole new ball game.
I really start to appreciate the gift…especially when it surprises me.
Hmmm…Let me explain what I mean by sharing with you one of my recent gift surprises. 😉 Continue reading Musing for Today: Celebrating Life’s Little Surprises
It’s common knowledge that any relationship worth having has to be founded on trust. From the classic parent-child relationship to the various non-genetically-related relationships like friendships, an ironclad level of trust has to exist for the relationship to weather Real Life. Right?
When one party mistrusts the intentions and commitment of the other, as in the above picture from the recently ended My Love from Another Star in which Do Min Joon doubts Song Yi’s love and commitment to him, the results can be a myriad of aftereffects…some minor and others major. Here’s a funny, yet sad, story of how this lack of trust taught one person in my life that trust is essential for a successful relationship. Continue reading Musing for Today: It’s a Matter of Trust
From the moment that we are born, we are taught invaluable lessons, lessons that many of our teachers–parents, mentors, siblings, etc.–hope will last us throughout our lifetimes and ones that will keep us forging confidently through all that Real Life has to throw our way.
Woohoo~! I am officially done with all my deadlines for the Winter 2014 term! 🙂 Never mind that the Spring 2014 term starts tomorrow. Heh. Tonight, I get to celebrate by blogging and hanging out with you all! Woohoo~!
Now, some of you may wonder, what is the topic of today’s musing… Continue reading Musing for Today: With Gusto!
We’ve seen this scenario time and time again: The girl starts to fall for one guy, but then something happens, and before we know it, the girl falls for the other guy. And all because of timing. We certainly saw it in spades with beloved series like Lovers in Prague, Lovers in Paris, and Spring Day (pictured above)…to some very heart-breaking results. Why? Because the male second leads are just as wonderful as the first leads. 🙁 Continue reading Musing for Today: Timing Is Everything
I can’t believe that it’s already been a year since I posted my New Year 2013’s resolution. If you’re interested in reading what that was all about, you can access it here.
For this year, I plan on continuing with those mentioned in 2013, but I have also added a couple more to the list. Let me explain why: Continue reading Musing for Today: New Year’s Resolution 2014
From time to time, we are struck with a desire–sometimes very intense–to be in possession of some very supernatural powers. The recent hit My Love from Another Star showcases a few of these talents, and today, I found myself in one of those rare moods when I absolutely wanted to possess a few. 😉 Continue reading Musing for Today: Super Powers
I was asked an unexpected question yesterday: Why don’t you date Mr. X?
This random question came from one of my little church minions and got me thinking about appropriate age ranges for women and men.
In our “modern” era, does age really still matter? Also, does the appropriate age “range” vary for men and for women? For the various cultures? For the specific decade people are in? Continue reading Musing for Today: Age Appropriate?
It’s difficult to believe that for me living in California, the end of 2013 is fast approaching as I type this final post of 2013.
Already, my fellow bloggers have published their insightful reviews and reflections on 2013 and its various dramas, leaving only me with the unfinished task of publishing mine before that fateful strike of the first second into 2014.
As I thought about what 2013 means to me, I took a cursory stroll through my 2013 archive of posts and discovered that this past year was quite the landmark year for our community. Continue reading Musing for Today: Goodbye 2013 …Hello 2014!
Merry Christmas, Twinkles!
I thought that given my compressed schedule recently, I would combine the announcement of the winners and a musings that explains exactly why I hosted such a 7-day marathon of giveaways together in a single post.
The announcement will be first and then the explanation. My hope is that you’ll continue to read to the end so that you can understand why I love Christmas so much.
Now, before I announce the winners, I want to thank you all for participating. 🙂 I was pleasantly surprised by the interest and excitement. 🙂 My only regret is that I can’t send all of you a Christmas gift. Seriously. TJ’s Mommy and I often joke about winning the lottery so that we can have oodles of money to lavish on people, but the chances of that happening are slim since…neither of us buy lottery tickets. LOL
Anyhow, without further ado, here are the winners of our first 7-days-of-Christmas Giveaway! The winning Twinkles were selected randomly using a “boring” method (www.random.org). Certainly, it’s not as creative–nor as pretty–as the method Jules uses for her giveaways, but it’s efficient. 😉 Continue reading Giveaway: Christmas Giveaway Winners and Musing for Today
